Months Overdue

I am sorry everyone.  There has been no post on either blog since DECEMBER (for Sports) and NOVEMBER (for News Outlet).  Fall Semester ended and winter break has passed.  Readjusting to school has been a difficult feat seeing that I have joined my University's Radio Station!  I am so excited for the opportunity to be doing a morning show but yes it does take away from these blogs and staying up late at night.  But thats not here nor there...it is time to step my game up and continue to create posts for everyone through both of the current blogs and possible future expansion blogs.  STAY TUNED!

Use Your Phone in the Air

US Airways and United are just the latest airline companies that have been given permission by the FAA to allow more personal device use during flights.

US Air says that small personal devices can be used during all phases of flights.

United passengers can also use small devices at all times but not for express flights.

Delta, as of November 1, allows portable electronics below 10,000 feet on mainline US domestic flights.

JetBlue completely adopted the use of electronic devices for all flights.

It is unknown when some of these rules will come into complete effect, but one thing is for sure, we can now stay connected in the air...which is just what Americans need...yeah right...

Twitter Finally Opens on the NYSE with a BOOM!

Twitter began its stock market trading this morning.

Last night, stock prices were projected to open at $26 per share but with all of the demand shown by the public, the shares opened at an astonishing $45.10 per share.  Huge opening numbers for the social media company on the NYSE.

By the end of the trading day, Twitter closed at $44.90, and since then has dropped to $44.25.  But I wouldn't be scared by the small drop.

Twitter wants to end its run of 7 straight years without running at a profit.  But don't expect an immediate change from the company.  Part of Twitters plan at the moment is to invest for the long term and that includes making the platform better for the public, its ads and future growth.

NFL Player 'Quits' But it is Not the First Occasion

John Moffitt this season
as a Denver Bronco.
John Moffitt had a bright NFL future ahead of himself when he came into the league in 2011 out of Wisconsin.  Moffitt was a 3rd round pick of the Seattle Seahawks and was traded to the Denver Broncos in August.  He simply says he's done with football and is ready to move on to bigger and better things.  He turns down about a one million dollar salary to start anew.

Give credit to Moffitt, he was just being honest to himself.  Football is a game where it demands complete focus and drive and without the drive to succeed, there is no need to continue.
Hamza (Left) and Husain (Right) Abdullah.

He is not the only player to quit on the game.  Hamza and Husain Abdullah (pictured to the right) quit football after the 2011 season to use their notoriety to spread a be better understanding of the Muslim faith in America.  Both players were starters for their respective teams.

Jacob Bell, former NFL player.
Also, Jacob Bell (another offensive lineman for the Atlanta Falcons and St. Louis Rams) retired from football after an eight-year career citing the sudden suicide of Junior Seau as one of the main reasons for leaving the game.  A major brain injury caused Seau to commit the act.

Bell in turn, feels as though he could suffer the same death.  He still loves the game but he believes the consequences outweigh the physical debilitation that comes after a longer career.

There are many reasons for one to retire, and these are all just examples that professional athletes are human and do have concerns for themselves.

Christie Not Finished in New Jersey

NBC News reports that current New Jersey Governor, Chris Christie will be re-elected to the position.  He stays in office after some rough times within the past few years in the Jersey area, most notably, Super-storm Sandy.  Christie's national profile has grown since he was first elected in 2010.  Experts and reporters feel that Christie will be a strong GOP candidate in the Presidential race of 2016 after current President, Barrack Obama's term ends. It is sooooo early to talk 2016 but I guess current officials have to get their stuff together in order to possibly provide a spark in the next election.

Houston Texan Coach Released from Hospital

via JAMO Sports:

Houston Texans Head Coach, Gary Kubiak was released from the hospital Tuesday, two days after suffering what has been diagnosed as a transient ischemic attack.  It is not known when Kubiak will resume coaching the team and be back on the sidelines.
A transient ischemic attack, or TIA, occurs when blood flow to the brain is briefly interrupted, typically by a blood clot or narrowed blood vessels.  TIAs are often called mini-strokes and can cause stroke-like symptoms including sudden dizziness, numbness, vision loss or unconsciousness, though symptoms last only a few minutes or a few hours and no permanent brain damage occurs. TIAs are often warning signs for a future stroke.
Kubiak will be monitored and hopefully returns in a few weeks.  We wish him a safe recovery.

Overview

NEW addition to the JAMO blogs...this time it is just news stories.  My previous blog was all sports and I feel as though there needs to be more than just sports covered.  JAMO News Outlet will allow me to comment and talk about news outside of sports.  But I can still mention or have sports posts on this blog (only because it always has something going on).  Hopefully I talk about all different kinds of new stories and give a perspective or maybe just share the news as it appears elsewhere (thanks everyone else in advance).
